History of the Jeep Wrangler | Dallas, GA

Perhaps the most beloved Jeep® model of all time, the Wrangler first went on sale for the 1987 model year. However, this vehicle can trace its ancestry even farther back — all the way to World War II.

Jeep CJ

Jeep® vehicles were first used by the military during World War II. After the war, the CJ (which stands for “civilian Jeep®”) went on sale, offering rugged body-on-frame design, open bodies, and tough off-road capabilities.

Jeep Wrangler YJ

In 1986, the 1987 Jeep® Wrangler YJ debuted as a replacement for the final CJ model, the CJ-7. This new model retained the open, body-on-frame look of the CJ series while adding rectangular headlights, a variety of interior upgrades, and updated safety and handling features to make it a great option for daily driving.

Jeep Wrangler TJ

The second-generation Jeep® Wrangler TJ arrived for the 1997 model year, cementing its place as an icon with a ground-up redesign that combined classic CJ looks (including a return to round headlights) with heightened off-road capabilities and new technologies. One of the Wrangler TJ’s most impressive new elements was the Quadra-Coil™ suspension, which allowed the vehicle to tackle tough trails more effectively than ever.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon & Unlimited

In the early 2000s, Jeep® added two new models to the Wrangler family. The Wrangler Rubicon added an exciting lineup of off-road features, and the Wrangler Unlimited featured a design with a longer wheelbase and more space for cargo.

Jeep Wrangler JK

The 2007 model year saw the introduction of the third-generation Jeep® Wrangler JK. This vehicle was available in both two-door and four-door configurations — a Wrangler first. Along with a new frame and design, the Wrangler JK also boasted features like removable doors, exposed hinges, a folding windshield and removable top.

Jeep Wrangler JL

The fourth-generation Jeep® Wrangler JL arrived for the 2018 model year, combining the model’s traditional strengths with new powertrain options, greater efficiency, and an interior filled with modern technologies and comfortable amenities.

The 2019 Jeep® Wrangler JL is available to test-drive now here at Paulding CDJR. Visit us to learn more and get behind the wheel of a true American legend.
