Jeep Wrangler and Renegade PHEV Coming in 2020
Following last year’s announcement that there will be a Jeep® Wrangler plug-in hybrid up for grabs within the next few years, Jeep® confirmed earlier this fall that a Renegade PHEV is also in the offing. With new Jeep® Wrangler and Renegade PHEV both on the docket for 2020, the world’s foremost maker of adventure-ready vehicles is joining the race to make the planet a cleaner place.
Updating the Lineup
Jeep® is looking to put forth eight PHEVs on the market by 2022, and the Wrangler and Renegade will kick off its push when they launch within the next two years. Production is already underway on the earliest examples of the Wrangler PHEV, and Motortrend reports that pre-production efforts are rolling along for the Renegade PHEV. FCA plans to offer 12 different electrified powertrains by 2022 across 30 different models, ranging from mild hybrids like the new Ram 1500’s eTorque to 10 plug-in hybrids to four fully electric vehicles.
Don’t Wait For Adventure
Jeep® hasn’t said much else about the Wrangler and Renegade PHEVs, but we can expect more as 2020 draws nearer. In the meantime, the refreshed 2019 Jeep® Renegade has been revealed, offering best-in-class Trail Rated® 4×4 capability and an all-new 1.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine.
