A Jeep® Off-Roading Tech Primer

August 8th, 2018 by

Ever wonder what gives a Jeep® its miraculous giddy-up ‘n’ go while off-roading? While it might feel like magic, there is a lot more Jeep® off-roading tech than wishes and pixie dust.

Jeep® is the unchallenged king/queen of 4×4 technology, promising the confidence to Go Anywhere. Do Anything.® Across the lineup, Jeep® offers thirteen specialized 4X4 systems ideal for conquering roads not yet blazed. Some of the very best-known technologies are:

Active Drive I 4×4 System

Active Drive I, available for the Cherokee, is one of the more fuel-minded options available in the Jeep® lineup because it only switches on the heavily gas-consuming 4X4 system as needed. This allows the Jeep® Cherokee to actively monitor wheel slip and automatically distribute torque as needed for superior control in any condition.

Active Drive Low 4×4 System

Active Drive Low, available on the Renegade Trailhawk,® offers a 20:1 crawl ration that helps it conquer off-road conditions with relative ease. It also offers a Rock drive mode to improve your experience on jagged terrain, complementing the Auto, Sport, Sand, Snow, and Mud drive modes offered on Renegade Trailhawk.®

Command-Trac® 4X4 System

Available on the Jeep® Wrangler, Command-Trac® 4X4 is set up to equally divide torque between wheels, deliver flat towing, and shift smoothly between 2WD and 4WD as needed. If you’re the type of driver who’s never quite sure what the road ahead has in store for you but want to be prepared for it all anyway. selecting a Jeep® Wrangler with the Command-Trac® 4X4 drivetrain is a smart choice.
